Fransesco Maestri’s mono-fermenter is one of the Biolectric plants with the highest efficiency. The farmer runs a dairy farm with 100 dairy cows in Lodi, in the north of Italy, and since 2018 he has been deriving an economic and an ecological benefit from his farm manure. After a start-up period in which Maestri took the time to get to know the plant well, he now tries to run it in the most optimal way. “To have maximum efficiency, I check the gas level three times a day and top up the manure. That way, there is always enough gas available. It has become a habit and takes no more than 15 minutes a day.”
The digester is fed four times a day. “By adding a smaller amount of manure more often, I ensure that the manure is really fresh and the temperature in the digester remains constant. The mono-digester is like my cows, they also like regularity.”
Maestri lets as little energy go to waste as possible: he uses the residual heat to heat his house in winter. “It was an extra investment, but just like with the investment for the pocket digester, it paid for itself quickly. I would do it again immediately!”

So the mono digester does exactly what it is supposed to do and we get a lot in return.

Reducing methane emissions is therefore an important and also necessary part of sustainability.
